A night of culture at AEA: An evening with the Maasai of Kenya
When: 03/10/2016 (Thursday) from 5:30-6:30pm
Where: AEA Charter Middle School, 458 26th Street, 92102
Please join us on this special evening as we welcome Maasai Youth Outreach Organization (MAYOO)
founder Jonathan Simel to our AEA community. Jonathan
will teach us about the Maasai culture and the work of his organization whose vision and mission is as follows.
We envision a community whose youth have access to education and basic necessities like potable water
so that they can live to their fullest potential.
Empowering the Maasai youth in being independent, proactive and high-achieving through improving access
to education and a healthy lifestyle.
This is an adult evening yet not exclusive to AEA parents. Some of the challenges facing the Maasai
community with gender equity in mind are not topics for little one's ears. Please feel free to invite
friends, extended members of your family and to also share this invitation with others via social media
networks. In the spirit of the International Baccalaureate, the aim of this evening is to promote
inter-cultural understanding, raise awareness, and gain support for MAYOO.
Please RSVP here.
THE BOOK FAIR IS COMING SOON!
Our second Scholastic Book Fair of the year is approaching quickly, right before Spring Break.
Opening day is Friday, March 11, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. The book fair will continue the following week,
Monday March 14th through March 18th and is open each day all day! Albert Einstein Academy (AEA)
believes strongly in the importance and power of reading. The book fair provides you with an opportunity
to nurture your reader, while supporting the reading environment at school.
Our goal this season is to sell 1,820 books. All profits go directly to purchase books for the school
library and to fund classroom libraries. There are many ways you can show your support: buy a well-priced
book from the book fair, buy a book from a teacher’s “wish list” or save time and visit
the online book fair
Your child's books will be delivered to their classroom teacher.
We will also have German books available to purchase at the book fair. German books are not-for-profit
and are generously purchased by Friends of AEA. They are made available for parents to support their
student's German language acquisition and enrichment. This sale will include Barbapapa books, beginning
reader Silbenmethode books by Leserabe, Superleser! Series, and much more!
German books are first come, first served. Absolutely no holds. Cash or check only.
