Tickets for the Gala Available
Each year you see the Auction Gala advertised in our newsletters and you
might be asking yourself why Friends of AEA puts on this event and why it is advertised so heavily.
The answer is pretty simple: FoAEA's
mission is to raise money for the school for a variety of programs including
music, art, science enrichment, PE supplies and teachers, ensuring that all students can attend every
field trip (including 6th grade camp), and assemblies.
FoAEA's 2015-16 school year budget is $150,000. We raise this money through our community's generosity.
Approximately $57,000 comes from the annual donation drive including $10,000 in corporate matching
grants. $16,000 comes from the fall fundraiser, Rock'n Run-a-Thon, Lantern Festival, and
Cake Auction and another $8,000 from Amazon. While these fundraising programs are very important,
they only account for around half of our total budget. The rest comes from the Auction Gala.
So far this year, our other fundraising programs have doing a bit better than expected (THANK YOU), but we still
need to raise approximately $70,000 at the gala on June 4th (and since we dipped into our reserves last year,
doing even better at the Gala this year would be fantastic). When you come to the Gala we want you to have
a wonderful time. We also want you to remember that your donations are important for the students of
AEA and are part of what make AEA such a special educational experience.
If you are unable to attend the Gala, please consider a special donation to our
annual donation drive.
Those of us on the board of FoAEA cannot thank you enough for your support of the school.

1st AEA Science Slam
A Science Slam is a science communication format where scientists explain their research or
projects in short 10-minute-talks that are easy to follow and then ... the audience gets to
vote – one vote for “fun” & a second vote for “easy to understand”. The important aspect is not
the scientific outcome of the research or project, but being able to explain it in an understandable,
entertaining and concise way.
Join us for the 1st AEA MS Science Slam - be a scientist who becomes a part of popular culture.
